 2016 Preview

Last year Alma Bryant finished ninth in Class 7A region 1 with a 0-8 region record and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Hurricanes would prefer to forget the past two seasons as they have finished with a 2-18 record. Since 2010, Alma Bryant has gone a combined 15-47. Their 24.0% winning percentage ranks 30th in Class 7A over the past six seasons.

Over the past 25 seasons, Alma Bryant has managed to compile a record of 74-116. Their 39.0% winning percentage ranks 28th in Class 7A and 290th in the AHSAA.

The Hurricanes are led by head coach Bruce Breland who is entering his third season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 6-25 over the past three seasons at Alma Bryant. Under his direction the Hurricanes have qualified for the playoffs once. They have not won a region crown with Coach Breland.

Coach Breland's overall record as a head football coach in eighteen seasons stands at 87-100 (46.5%). Over the course of his career, Coach Breland's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times and won one region championship.

The Hurricanes enter the 2016 season in the middle of a 15 game losing streak. They would like nothing better than to end the string of losses early in the season.

The Alma Bryant Hurricanes will play in Class 7A region 1 during the 2016 season.

This season, the Hurricanes will be a long shot for one of the four playoff spots in Region 1.

The Hurricanes open the 2016 season at home against region opponent Murphy on Friday, August 26 at Hurricane Stadium. Last year the Murphy Panthers finished with an overall record of 7-4 and in second place in Class 7A region 1. The Panthers lost in the first round of the Class 7A playoffs to Lee Montgomery by a score of 37-21.

Alma Bryant and Murphy have met a total of 24 times on the football field. The Hurricanes have a 5-19-0 record against the Panthers. They last met in 2020 with Murphy winning by a score of 14-13.
